M for Melayu

I am sad to watch the attitude of the Malay (some, not all). Bila orang cakap malas, marah.

First scenario:

Yang kerja dalam government tak tahulah buat kerja apa. Telefon susah sangat nak angkat, email tak berjawab. Hari Jumaat kena call lepas 10.30 pagi baru ada dalam office, pukul 12 dah kena pergi sembahyang Jumaat so berapa jam je kau kerja? Kalau ko deal dengan machine, tak apelah nak buat cenggitu. Nih ko deal dengan manusia, takkan sukahati je nak masuk office bila-bila ko nak.

Do you know 'minum pagi' is not an official break? It is a culture cultivated among the government servants.

I vow to myself, not to have this kind of attitude when I go back to Malaysia. To note, I am also a public servant. This post is also a reminder to self. Kerja itu satu amanah.

Scenario 2:

When I went home last year, I had to get a signature on a form from my employer.

"Puan, pegawai cuti lah. Dia seorang je boleh tandatangan. Puan datang minggu depan je lah."

You've got to be kidding me right. Ada berapa puluh pegawai, satu je leh tandatangan. Satu je? I don't know if this is a trend in our public services but 'hanya sorang pegawai je yang boleh tandatangan' syndrome seems to be voiced by others too.

I don't know what is the exact percentage of Malay working in public services. I've tried to google the numbers, found none. I will say it is between 80-90%, so to transform the public services means you need to transform the Malay's thinking culture.

Scenario 3:
Abby Abadi masuk PAS. Amy Search masuk UMNO. They are mature adults who can make their own decision.

And see what were these Malay girls tweeted her :

Come on! You do not have to be that low attacking someone's decision.

US celebrities have been publicly endorsing their choice of Presidential candidate and it is common here in the US. They even raised funds on behalf of the candidates to run their campaigns. Sini kalau PAS, kecoh satu Malaya.

Kalau tengok article posted either in malaysiakini or blog post on political issues lagi pening. Yang pelik ramai betul Melayu yang comment ;p Kalau comment membina takpe, nih comment macam orang takde agama. Insaflah wahai Melayu.

Manners

I hardly get mad but it seems that lately I keep encountering people who simply have to learn their manners and fix their attitude..

1. I am responsible teaching an undergrad student in my lab. At our first meeting, she seemed to be very enthusiastic on the prospect of working in our lab. She is a pre-vet student, so basically she needs few hours of lab experience in her resume to enter the vet school. I thought she has at least some basic knowledge working in the lab, such as using the pH meter, pipetting etc but apparently, she has zero knowledge. Nada. It was like teaching somebody how to use Microsoft Word, which I do not mind initially. Everyone needs a starting point. Week by week, I found myself wanting to choke myself to death (literally) as she could not grasp the concept of whatever I am trying to teach her. Tulis nota kemain bila aku explain, tapi bila tanya balik, asyik tak tahu. I thought it's probably my fault not conveying the right idea to her, but when Hung, our research staff was trying to teach her an assay, he was complaining about the same thing. She needs to be 'baby-sit' everytime she is in the lab, which is tiring and I have tonnes of other work to do. Ok, fine, maybe she is not a fast learner. But when she went missing the day she was supposed to come to the lab and gave my supervisor some kind of bullshit excuses, she just proved she does not have the right kind of attitude to become a vet student.

2. When people were asking me for help to buy handbag from the US, I expect them to pay within the agreed time. Most of them paid on time. However, some of them do not bother to reply my email when I asked them for payment. They expect me to survey things for them, pay their handbag with my own pocket money, offer them with installment plan and wait until they have enough money to pay me.  Benggali jual karpet pun boleh bankrap camni. Kalau tak kesian dekat saya, kesian lah dekat anak saya.

3. When people were asking my favor (read: my favor) to mail their items to Malaysia, I expect they will understand that I am a busy 4th year graduate student who is working her ass off to graduate as soon as possible. Ok, scratch that. I expect them to know I am a busy woman. I expect they will understand when they said 'NO RUSH', it means I will take my own sweet time to pack their stuffs. I expect they will understand the post office opens from 8 am- 5pm and it is also my working hours. I expect they will understand going to the post office during my working hour is not a priority unless I do not have any work at all. But apparently they never understand. 2-3 kali email bila nak pos, bila nak pos. Tau tak aku tengah animal experiment nih, sabtu ahad pun kena kerja. Paham tak?????

Ok, memang sah tak paham.

Jai cakap lepas nih jangan tolong orang dah. Asyik kena pijak je. And untuk tidak memberi harapan palsu pada korang, jangan lah bukak fescalados punye website lagi. Celah mana lah aku nak pergi beli stock kalau dah weekend pun kena kerja.

The dumbest argument I've ever read.

It is Friday and someone pissed me off.

When I decided to study abroad, the sole purpose of me choosing to study here rather than in Malaysia is because of the advantages the US system offered.

Sebab pertama:

If I were to buy a chemical reagent from an overseas-based company, it will take months for the item to arrive where as I could get the same reagent for 2 days here in the US (if I use expedited shipping, I can get it right the next day, ha!).

Sebab kedua:

Studying in the US forced me not to speak my mother-tongue language. As a result, I won't go stutter whenever I have to converse in English.

Sebab ketiga:

The only expert in my field is my mentor back in UPM. No doubt he was a graduate from Cornell. But having only one professor teaching you everything about one subject doesn't give you a broad idea about your field.

So, if you think, the reason why I chose overseas for my graduate education is because I would like to bring my husband, having a US-born child, tettttttttt, you are totally wrong. My husband won't even want to accompany me at first. I have to beg him for the first few months after we got married.

And do you think I would just sacrifice the idea of me being pregnant during the peak fertility age (ie: in my 20's) just to get a scroll of Ph.D?

Tettt, again, you are totally wrong!

I am married and the reason of me getting married is to have children. I do not simply go pregnant once I am in grad school. I waited a few years so that I could get everything out of the way before we decided to have a child. Even so, I know a lot of married couple with children that could manage their time really well during the first few years of grad school. The very valuable skill that I learn from having a baby when I am still in grad school is I get everything organized. Dulu masuk lab, bukak email fb segala mak nenek sampai kul 12, pergi lunch, lepas lunch baru buat kerja, balik rumah kul 7pm. Now, I make sure I have everything planned a week before and I get everything done by 5pm.  So, shut the f*ck up, you have no idea how grateful I am having a baby now rather than later. I know 5 people who didn't finish their study and they were single. So, everyone has sh*t in their life, it is the matter of how they deal with it.

Do you think I live a luxury life here in the US?

Although my husband is working, half of his pay goes to our baby's daycare. The other half is to pay our car insurance, bills and emergency saving. The Malaysian government allowance is just enough to pay our house rent, electricity and groceries. If we want to go for vacation, we have to start saving 6 months prior. 6 months okay? Bukan esok nak bercuti, suka2 hati leh pergi.

Thank you for wasting my time writing this piece of emotional sh*t when I should be expressing my milk for Faliela. Thank you for ruining my Friday. And again, shut the f*ck up when you have no idea what you are talking about.

What happened when journalists didn't do their homework properly?

Read this link here

It is just weird when an uncle left a 'presumably' vicious dog with his 3-year old nephew, alone. As if his uncle doesn't know the behavior of his dog better than anyone else.

This is a lesson I would like to teach all of you who think all dogs are vicious:

Dogs (as with most other animals) won't attack people unless being provoked. With an exception: a guard dog. And some dogs won't attack people even after being provoked.

If you really want to stay away from a vicious dog, then I'll say stay away from a pit bull. Other than that, you are fine.

If you were in this situation, what would you do?

Ok. Ini bab mengumpat. Switching to BM.

Selalu kitorang akan pergi makan lunch buffet setiap hujung minggu dekat sebuah restoran Pakistan. Kiranye kitorang nih regular customer dari kedai dia rupa cam 'ghetto' sampailah dorang pindah ke kedai cantik.
Anyway, seperti biasa hari nih kitorang makan kat situ. Kitorang pelanggan pertama, lepas tuh masuk laki orang putih sorang, then masuk sorang perempuan orang putih pulak. Kita namakan perempuan orang putih tuh, Mary (bukan nama sebenar). Mary nih pun regular customer gak tapi kitorang lagi lama dari dia. Dia memang akan datang setiap hujung minggu, kadang2 nampak dia mengajar anak owner restoran tuh sebab Mary nih cikgu sekolah rendah. Lepas Mary masuk, ada mamat Mexican pulak masuk. Then, seperti biasa, waiter tuh akan serve ais kosong lah kat semua customer. So, waiter nih dia serve Mexican tuh dengan ais kosong tuh dulu before Mary. Mary tuh duk dekat paling corner restoran tuh, tiba2 dia cakap kuat giler.

Mary: Kenapa serve dia dulu air sedangkan saya sampai dulu. Awak patut serve saya dulu.

Ok. At first, kitorang ingat dia joking dengan waiter tuh sebab kitorang tak nampak muka dia plus customer lain ada dalam restoran tuh pun semua gelak2. Sebelum tuh, mamat Mexican nih pun ade buat lawak cakap dia ingat dia dapat jadi first customer hari tuh, so kiranye suasana time tuh cam chill lah kan.

Waiter: Apa masalah awak Mary? Ye, saya tahu. Saya akan amikkan air kosong untuk awak lepas nih.

Ok. Kiranye kalau suasana time tuh cam suasana chill, aku rasa waiter tuh pun kira melawak lah kan.

Mary: Perangai awak kurang ajar.

Jai time nih gelak2 lagi. Aku cam was2 lah. Perempuan nih melawak ke serius.Aku tanye Jai, jai confident cakap perempuan tuh melawak kan. Sebab perempuan tuh memang baik pun, kalau nampak kitorang mesti tegur. Sampailah, perempuan nih bangun dari tempat duduk dia, pergi jumpa owner restoran tuh

Mary: Aman (bukan nama sebenar) sangat kurang ajar dengan saya. (Then, dia cerita lah, bla bla bla)

Jai cakap, oh perempuan nih serius rupanye.

Pastuh perempuan nih habiskan makanan dia, bangun, and terus bayar. Cepat gila lah, kitorang pun tak habis makan lagi.

Mary: (Waktu dia bayar) Saya masih tak dapat tahan marah. Jadi, saya akan beredar, dan mungkin tidak akan ke restoran nih sampai saya boleh melupakan kejadian ini.

Owner restoran: (Minta maaf sambil suruh Aman minta maaf, and Aman pun mintak maaf) Sorry ye Mary.

Aku cakap lah, ingatkan Mary tuh buat lawak memandangkan dia tuh regular customer. Rupenya tak. Yelah, kalau tau Mary tuh serius, maybe Aman pun tak cakap cam tuh kot. Aman tuh ade cakap, kadang2 dia marah anak owner restoran tuh kalau anak owner restoran tuh tak ikut cakap dia masa dia ajar dorang.Pastuh Mary merajuk, terus keluar dari restoran tuh. Aku pun ade nampak gak, hari tuh anak owner tuh tertumpah air kosong time si Mary tuh ngajar anak dia. Pastuh terus Mary tuh pergi cakap dengan owner tuh kata anak dia tak nak ikut cakap. Ala, budak2 umur 7-8 tahun, biasalah tuh. Plus, dia pun cikgu kan, takkan tak paham perangai budak2.

Mamat Mexican tuh pun mintak maaf kat Aman sebab dia, Aman kena marah pulak kan. Aman pun mintak maaf dengan semua customer dalam restoran tuh sebab kekecohan yang berlaku.

So, kesimpulannya, kitorang anggap, sama ada Mary tuh tengah PMS atau pun dia menopause. Tapi bak kata Aman, customer is always right.

P/S: Pernah keja McD lepas SPM sampai dapat surat complaint dari customer. Kalo ko nak ngada2 sangat mintak tukar toys itu ini dalam Happy Meal tuh, pergi bukak restoran sendiri boleh? Ada 10 orang lagi beratur belakang ko, takkan nak layan ko berjam2.For the record, I am certainly not a customer-service type of person :P

Information barrier

First of all, I would like to share this article about what the do's and the dont's in Facebook.

Please click here and here.

My friend's house just got broken into last week and she believes it was an inside job. Whoever it is, it reminded me of how we should be aware that too much information revealed brings more harm than good.

After I reactivated my facebook, I deleted all the info about my workplace. All I have in my info are my birthday (without the year), whom I married to ( in which I actually would like to disconnect the ties with my husband virtually but he refused) and my network. I no longer accept friend request from person I've never met (although we might know each other virtually). I think few of the readers of this blog were trying to add me in facebook so I apologized if I did not accept your friend request. For now. Nanti kita jumpa in person, confirm I yang add korang dulu =)

I noticed that people like to use the check-in tools in facebook and personally I think it is dangerous cos it reveals your location at that very moment. And I also noticed some people like to reveal how much bonus they get with pictures of check written 5-digits number etc. It is like revealing to the whole world how much money you have but at the same time, exposing you to an unnecessary danger. Taulah takde alamat, tapi mana lah tau yang jahat tuh kawan2 kita jugak. So, do take that into consideration. Of course, I did that few times too, revealing gadgets that I got or bought and indeed, this certainly serves as a reminder to myself. Although I know you must be feeling on top of the world getting some cool gadget  as present or being paid for your hardwork, but lesser is better. Keep it to yourself. Trust me.

Terrorism and Islam are two different things

A couple of days ago, I read an article written by Sharjeel Kashmir about how the perception on Islam changed after 9/11. I quote some of interesting paragraphs on his article:

"When I first moved here, I felt welcomed. I was truly impressed by the fact that America gave me as an immigrant the same opportunities it did to its own citizens. Today, that is still largely the case, unless your name is Mohammad or if you choose to wear the hijab."

"Some people have clearly decided that 9/11 gives them the right to persecute Muslims. And as a result, we are all collectively paying for the sins of terrorists -- a radical, crazy few who just happen to share the same religious background."
Sharjeel Kashmir explained everything I had in mind when I first set my foot in the US. I tried to convince my husband that people were looking at me differently, but he didn't really pay attention to my complaints saying I was just being paranoid. Until the incident in Seattle.

Then, another article appeared in the CNN about Islamophobia, the author, a Muslim who happened to be an international human rights lawyer. Then, I realized why was the first article written. It was all because the so-called 'Ground Zero' mosque which I thought already down-the-memory lane.

First, it was unfair to describe the mosque as a 'Ground Zero' mosque as it was not going to be built on the site where the World Trade Center collapsed.

Second, the site where they proposed to build the mosque is a private property.

Third, this issue has turned political and the politicians has taken this issue as an advantage to bash Obama and his administration.

Fourth, the news of plan to build this mosque was out publicly in Dec 2009. No one had any issue with it. In May 2010, the issue was being debated again and one website started calling it as a 'Ground Zero' mosque and now, it was being made as a political debate during the holy month of Ramadhan.

I felt obligated to write this entry just because I had heard enough of the allegations against Islam which was not true and I'm sick of it.

First, Bryan Fischer mentioned that "Permits should not be granted to build even one more mosque in the United States of America, let alone the monstrosity planned for Ground Zero. This is for one simple reason: each Islamic mosque is dedicated to the overthrow of the American government.”  He is a spokeperson for American Family Association and he graduated from Stanford University. Listening to him trying to convey the message about Christian is the religion of peace but not Islam was not surprising at all, knowing he was a pastor. However, to persecute other religion is a really terrible thing to start of.

Second, Pamela Geller, a right-wing activist who was invited in today's CNN: Anderson Cooper. Her extreme views on Islam was really obvious when she said it is the tradition in Islam to build a mosque at the place they conquered to acknowledge their victory.

When I said  "Shallow Americans", these are the people I was referring to.

As what I recalled from the movie: My name is Khan " Being a Muslim is not a bad thing"

Please make your own judgments.

Real Madrid vs. Club America

Bilalah nak sampai seru buat entry Oregon and Seattle nih.........

Well, anyway, we went to watch an exciting game between Real Madrid and Club America (pronounced as Kelub Amerikah) yesterday in San Francisco. We took off from Davis at 4pm, reached SF at about 6pm.Went makan2 at the Malaysian restaurant, Banana Island.

Thinking that the stadium is just 10 min away from the restaurant, we took our own sweet time enjoying Malaysian food.

The game started at 8pm and we got out from the restaurant around 7.30pm..

And then, my oh my... the traffic was really bad and we underestimated the popularity of the game. Anyway, we did the Malaysian style of 'mencilok' so we got into the area around 8pm.

Then, there's another problem. Finding a parking spot. It was a long queue to get the parking spot, had to pay $25 which was freaking expensive. Anyway, we dropped off Fakhirah and Adilla to get the ticket at the will call counter while we searched for parking spot.

The Candlestick Park's (the stadium) management was really terrible. They arranged the will call counter according to alphabetical order and the queue was very loooooong and way to slow. How was we supposed to know which line we were queuing when the line was not really a line?

Anyway, after people were shouting "refund, refund" for quite a while, the management opened the gate to us to enter with or without ticket. So, we stormed into the stadium and it was already halftime. Real Madrid has scored one goal. The stadium was only 20% full cos there was so many people stuck outside the stadium because of the stupid counters.

I was so 'lampi' (lambat pick-up) I didn't know Club America is a Mexican football team until I went into the stadium and saw all the Mexicans holding the Club America banner. Patutla ramai Mexican outside the stadium. Blur lah ko nih Farina. Hahaha.

Candlestick Park

He sat right beside us. Tak berapa semenggah sikit perangainye.

Mexican fans

On the screen, Cristiano Ronaldo

When the game started, only one football star that I recognized which was Cristiano Ronaldo *wink*. Kaka and Iker Casillas were not in the line-up. Nevertheless, I think the second half was much more exciting because there were 4 goals scored, 2 by each side. Real Madrid defeated Club America, 3-2. The winning goal which was a freekick (freekick ala David Beckham), was scored by Ronaldo. Both team played very well, even Club America had many attempts to score goal. Real Madrid did not put their full force team, that's probably the reason why Club America could actually scored.

In nutshell, buy the cheapest ticket you can get with a good seating position. As long as you can see the whole view of the game is good enough. Bring a binocular if you want to see the player closely. Come 2 hrs before the game. Any management who wants to organize any kind of football match should offer online ticket printing. Don't underestimate the popularity of soccer in the US.

Ape2 pun bestnyeeeeee dapat tengok Real Madrid! *tone jakun*

Pushing myself

It is past midnight and I still have 7 pages of reading to go. How many pages of the textbook I read today?

**60 bloody long pages**

Most often, I could not finished reading more than 10 pages a day. This is all because of one professor which is also my exam committee member that has been seeing me for the past 3 weeks. No professor will do this to anyone, I mean, helping the student to prepare for the exam. Except this one.

I'm grateful to have her in my committee. But me being me, I waited til the last minute to prepare myself before meeting her tomorrow. I should put more effort next time.

Now, go and finish your reading.

The inefficient of the so-called 'efficient' Malaysian police- Part II "A stupid death"

For those who haven't read about my experience with Malaysian police, please click HERE and HERE

At first, I wanted to stay quiet about this. But each day, I observed more and more people arguing, ade orang kata polis salah. Ada orang kata budak tuh salah. Until today, after watching a video of the kid that survived from the police incident, I felt I wanna write something about it.

Yes, I had a friend yang perangai macam setan dekat sekolah asrama sampailah die hampir nak kena buang sekolah, his parent was called and refused to admit that his son is a bad boy. But then, in this case, the kid was staying 24/7 with his parent. How could they do not know anything weird about her son? So, I doubt this kid was a bad kid. But nothing is impossible.

Yes, die kuar tengah2 malam bawak keta tanpa license. Jai was arguing with me about this. And I asked him back, didn't you drive your father's car without license when you were at high school? Does that make you a bad person, penyamun, hisap dadah etc? I, myself bawak motor without a license when I was 15 years old. Tapi saya tak jual dadah, hisap rokok, minum arak, menyamun orang. That kid was a typical teenage boy, only that he was at the wrong place, wrong time.

Yes, dia lari bila polis kejar dia. I admit the kid's action was a really bad decision, but in a split second, could you really think what you're gonna do bila ada pencuri masuk rumah u? It is called 'fight and flight' response in medical, the normal response you will get in acute stress. It is either you fight or run, in this case the kid panicked and he decided to run eventhough police had taken several shots at him. He is probably thinking, my family could save me. And please be reminded, he was just 15.

Yes, jalan dekat Shah Alam gelap, tak nampak bila tembak. Tapi jalan dekat Shah Alam banyak roundabout, banyak kawasan perumahan, banyak lorong2 kecik. Sejauh mana budak tuh boleh lari? And they have already shot the tires, how far can the car goes with a flat tire? I thought they have EVO10 come in handy untuk kejar penjenayah. What's the purpose of having that EVO10, wasting taxpayers' money?

Another thing to ponder, the statements made by Musa Hassan. To pull back policeman? What kind of statement was that? You are Inspector's General Police for god sake.  I thought policemen are tough, when people started to criticizing you, jangan cepat melatah. Have some dignity.Car is also a type of weapon? I don't know if the standard operating procedure of Malaysian police requires shooting the driver if the driver decided not to pull over. In the US, the police will not shoot you unless you attack them first.

Bukan semua polis jahat, but bila kita diamanahkan buat kerja, buatlah kerja betul-betul. Isu ini tidak perlu dipolitikkan, bila politik masuk campur, semua kerja tak jalan. Although Karpal Singh probably would be the family's attorney, I hope no one buat kerja bodoh mempolitikkan isu nih. Oh, pada parents yang nak salahkan budak tuh, pergi check anak sendiri dulu sebelum komen anak orang.

Entry PMS lagi :P

Update 9.55pm: I think I'm on the same page with Zulkifli Noordin.  Read HERE. I am an avid follower of his blog since BEFORE he left PKR and I like his way of tackling certain issues. Let's just hope he will remained BEBAS.

Melayu mudah lupa!

Emm, kesimpulan dari blog-hopping hari ini

Nota muhasabah diri:

  • Kalau pasal benda-benda kecik, kita mudah melatah itulah gambaran emosi menguasai akal.
  • Kalau most of the time kita rasa kita betul, that's the time kita patut duduk diam2 muhasabah diri.
  • Jangan sebab nila setitik, rosak susu sebelanga.
  • Kalau kita asyik dengki dengan orang, hidup kita takkan pernah senang sebab kita asyik memikirkan hidup orang lain dari hidup kita sendiri.
*Mengingatkan diri-sendiri juga* Oh, ini entry PMS :P

    Of friendship and what not

I considered myself lucky because I have a very diverse range of friends cos I was in 3 different schools. I was in a Convent school when I was in primary school and I went to 2 MRSM during secondary school. I encountered so many characters of people throughout my 27 years of life.

    1. People who just doesn't trust your input. I had a friend in primary school whose good in English than me and during English class, she didn't know the graded quantifiers of few. Because I learnt in my tuition class, I told her the answer but she still went to ask a teacher and my English teacher told her the same answer like mine. It was not just one occurence, I think she just feel she's greater over anyone else.
    2. People who seems to be a good listener but decided to spill out your story to the entire universe. I had this one during secondary school. My second MRSM is a 'very' skema school in the entire world. The seniors would tortured you if so happened you have a boyfriend in school. So, this friend decided she had the control over my life and told the story to this one senior. Luckily, nothing happened, they didn't tortured  me whatsoever, but I learnt not to trust that same person ever again.
    3. People who lie because she wanna be your bestfriend. This one was weird but I have a friend who lied about something important just to make me comfortable.
    4. People who always be there for you no matter what happens. This is very hard to find but nevertheless, I found her and she remains my bestfriend until now. I could actually tell her any stories from my cat dying to my darkest secret. Never once she crossed me behind my back.
So, with that, I would like to wish Happy Birthday to Oya, my bestfriend :) I know your birthday is on the 19th but I'm afraid I will get caught up by work during that week, so here it is. Do you want New Moon Blu-Ray as your present?

So, back to what I wrote earlier, I don't mean to criticize anybody. It is just that we must accept the fact that each person has their own unique character. Do not expect everyone to follow your rules. I made this mistake once and I won't repeat it again, luckily I didn't lose any friends. And if you feel you can't stand one person, just let her/him go, confrontation will always make things worse. Learn from mistake and try to evaluate yourself from now and then, do not assume you're right most of the time...

      Damn you Jesse James!

Jesse James is Sandra Bullock's husband.

During the Oscars, I was telling my husband, "I like Jesse James. He looks like he is one tough guy but he definitely has soft spot in his heart. No wonder Sandra married him".

Reason being, he had teary eyes when Sandra acknowledged him during her heart-warming speech. And during the interviews with Barbara Walters, Sandra mentioned that her husband was the one that kept her going.

And that was history. The women whom he had an affair with revealed their story and they had an 11-month relationship when Sandra was shooting The Blind Side!

F*** off Jesse James. You just don't know how to keep your dick in your pants.

Yang aku emo sangat nih apesal? Confused!

      National Registry Sex Offender

I think it is time for Malaysia to establish a database on sex offenders especially those who had history of sexual assault against children.

But to establish this kind of system, Malaysia has to change the way they implement any system. No such thing as hangat2 tahi ayam.

US had learnt in a hard way to show their current system was a failure. Recently, a guy named John Gardner who is a convicted sex offender was detained on the charges of raping and killing a girl in San Diego, California. He had 7 violation during his parole but one of his big violation was living close to a high school and day-care center. He was a registered sex offender in Lake Elsinor but he was living with his mom in some other places. Obviously looking at this, there was a big hole in the system. There were some arguments saying people with sex offender should be locked up for life but the capacity of US prison to hold them was limited.

Well, to me, the sex offenders should not be locked up in prison neither should them living in the society with the rest of us. An institute built especially for sex offenders is a reasonable way to keep them locked up because obviously they need mental rehabilitation or you could call it sex rehab (the same like Tiger Woods went into recently). If they are capable of doing the same offense repeatedly, that means something need to be fixed. Throwing them into prison hoping someday they could be fixed is absurd!

If mental rehabilitation could fix them, then release them into society with one condition:

      Continuous and strict monitoring.

One of them is by registering their names into database, and make sure they live at the same place every month.

I saw a show on how they conducted a parole checking where a guy (more like atuk to me) has several history with molestation on young children. They found children costume and toys in his house and they detained the atuk immediately because of parole violation.

The case of Nurin Jazlin was one of the example of what we don't want to have in our society. A pathetic psyhopathic sex offender running loose and he still is!

      Random stories

      Hola everyone...

Despite of  having a 'musim tengkujuh' here in Davis, I am much better now :) Biar hujan turun berderai-derai, jangan air mata, mak tak larat dah nokss!

My presentation went well today, though I had to present slides in a rush because of time-constraint. *Happy face*

Anyway, I'm leaving for a conference this Saturday and knowing that there will be no internet connection at the hotel, I know I must update now rather than later.I'm a bit worried cos basically I will be alone with a crowd of strangers and I'm SUCKS at making conversation with new people. Huhuhu, now I wish I had the aura of Hayah, my friend who is really outstanding when it comes to meeting people. Tips, anyone?

On another note, I watched CNN Anderson Cooper who is now making coverage in Haiti. It was really really sad. I was actually crying when I saw a news about a child who trapped under the rubble for nearly 2 days before she was found and it took hours for the rescuers to arrive and several hours after they saved her, she died! They called her death, a "stupid death" because if the help came sooner, the child probably still breathing at this moment.

Then, I saw the E! Kidnapping of Jaycee Dugard, she was abducted when she was 11 years old and they found her only 18 years later, with 2 childrens; whom the father of her children is the kidnapper himself. I think the case went international cos I was in Malaysia and saw the news about her discovery. The kidnapper was a sex-offender and the parole officer failed to notice he kept Jaycee just in his backyard!

Anyway, the morale of these stories is buat kerja betul-betul! Kerja itu satu amanah jadi tak boleh sia-siakan. Have a great weekend anyone!

The story that I tried to erase from my memory but I can't...

      Jeng jeng jeng..

As Kak Mon  has requested, this is the full story about the night where the attempted robbery occured few years back. So, here it goes..
First of all, shall I say, it was not an attempted robbery but an attempted raping...

      Geez.. where shall I start?

I just graduated from diploma and because Jai just moved to Shah Alam, I decided not to go back but working part-time in Subang. I stayed at my bff's house, Oya who was on her semester holiday and she was also working part-time with me.Then about 2 weeks later, I got an offer to continue my degree on veterinary medicine. So, I quit the job and went back home for a week to prepare all the things for the registration. After registration and few sessions of orientation, I got bored cos I basically knew what they gonna talk as I attended them during my diploma. So, I skipped the orientation and went to Oya's house. Oya was alone in the house for the past one week.

Well, I remembered it was during fasting month and I think it happened on Friday night.I fell asleep on the couch while watching TV. Oya was out with Karim, her boyfriend for a midnight movie.

Out of sudden, I felt someone tried to suffocate me with a piece of cloth. I was struggling until I fell down from the couch. I tried to fight him but obviously he was so strong and I heard him saying " Jangan melawan, jangan melawan". I finally surrendered cos I could not breathe. I was already lying on the floor trying to peep through the sliding door to see whether Oya was homed or not. But it was dark and I could not see outside. We usually leave the front porchlight on, but the jackass turned it off.

So, my body was facing down and he sat on my back and tied my hand using a rope, shut my mouth with a piece of cloth and another piece to blindfold me. I could smelled the odor of cigarette smoke while he was tying me down. He pulled me up and brought me to the first room, which is Oya's. As he opened the door, I could feel he startled a little bit and closed the door back. I think I knew he was shocked to find Oya was sleeping on that room but I was not sure cos I can't see! But before I can do anything, he put his hand inside my night lingerie and grope my breasts. Note: PLURAL.  He molested me! F**K!

I tried to scream but of course, with a piece of cloth stucked in my mouth, I was hardly screaming. Then, the cloth that blindfolded me loosen and I saw him running towards the back door that was widely opened! I ran towards the front door and tried to open the sliding door with my tied-hands. I managed to open the sliding door and found the grill and gate was widely opened too. I screamed for help like about 5 seconds until Oya opened up the window from her room asking me what had happened. Jiran semua pun tidur mati, I hate all the neighbours area situ, dahlah rumah teres, bukan rumah banglo. Boleh tak dengar?????

She was shocked to hear that someone has entered the house. We were both so scared cos we were not sure whether the jackass was still in the house or not, so she stayed closed with me at the window. She called the police using the house phone, Karim and Jai using her cellphone and like I said in my previous post, both of the boyfriends arrived before the police. After Jai and Karim entered the house, I found that the couch has been pushed away cos I was fighting and struggling with the jackass. My phone was lying on the floor near the couch, untouched. I figured out later that Oya did not turned off the living room's light either so that means I was so 'tidur mati' that I didn't realised that the jackass has turned off all the lights, tried to enter through the front door but he was stucked at the sliding door, so he entered through the backdoor. And we think he had the house keys cos there was no sign of breaking-in ( like umpil etc.). Oya's housemate has lost a set of keys before so probably that was his way of entering the house.

That's why when there's scene of raping in a movie or I read news about someone had been raped, I literally know how they felt. You feel like so sakit hati nak mampus bila someone touch your private part, let alone raping you..

Anyway, I thank god for keeping us alive. That is why we owe each other our lives. Only god knows what would happened to Oya if I didn't skip the orientation and me if Oya had not came back from movie.

May you rot in hell for the rest of your sick life, jackass!

Our ward is 1/10 the size of their ward..

WTH am I talking about here nih? Ward, what ward?

Just now, I had a tour of UC Davis vet hospital.... Luckily I know Lani, a vet student who works in my lab over the summer and she gives a tour every fortnight to anyone who likes to visit the university teaching hospital....

Well, knowing that UC Davis is among the top 3 vet school in the US, I am not surprised to see their high-end facilities...

They have MRI and CT scan services for small and large animals, specialized clinics (dentistry, opthalmology , neurology, bla bla bla) and they even offer hemodialysis service for dogs and cats... and UC Davis is the first teaching hospital to offer the hemodialysis service before other schools in the US.... I'm impressed!!! Like really really impressed! Now I missed being a clinician, working with small animals.. :( (Padehal kerja sebulan jer kat klinik, hehehe)

Next time she's doing a tour, I'll bring a camera and bring back those pictures to Dr. Wahid who is the Deputy Dean of UPM's Teaching Hospital.. Semangat tak menahan...

Our faculty is expanding and the building is scheduled to be completed either end of this year or early next year.. (Oh, pemandangan fakulti baru adalah nampak Putrajaya Marriot ek, tepi Hospital Serdang.. Apekah motif letak fakulti kitorang dekat2 dengan Med School?)

So, I hope as the future backbones of the faculty (chewah, backbone konon), we could do something to improve the teaching facilities in the future... Amacam, ade peluang jadi Dean tak? Hehehehe

      A funny one..

Just moved in to the new apt but not gonna update you guys 'bout that.. Will do soon..

Went to dinner with Iqra n Kadir who helped us moving, loading and unloading... Huish penat..

Anyway, opps kena citer dalam BM sebab ada part mengutuk kan...

Iqra complain mat salleh suka sangat merendek dalam swimming pool apt rumah dia.. Dah 2 kali dah katanye.. FYI, dia nye bedroom kat second floor and memang nampak swimming pool.. Nih citer malam tadi, dia balik umah n lalu dekat swimming pool.. Time tuh dah nampak si teruna dan dara lelaki dan perempuan berpelukan dalam swimming pool.. Tuh pemandangan biasa kat sini harap maklum.. Then, dia sampai rumah terus nak main DOTA.. Tgh main DOTA, dia dengar bunyi... KECEK,KECEK,KECEK (sound effect yang sungguh sesuai).. Dia sungguhla tak leh concentrate main DOTA, sebab bunyi tuh sungguh kuat.. So dia decide bukak lampu n lagu kuat2 supaya dorang stop.. Makin kuat rupanye bunyi KECEK KECEK KECEK tuh... Aku tanye ko tak skodeng ke, die kate tak.. Erm, bertuahlah ko ek Iqra, tak skodeng konon.. pandai ko cover line ek depan aku..

Cerita kedua.. Orang tua yang melanggan 2 orang "perempuan" kat hotel tempat Jai keja.. Tak lama lepas tuh, tiba-tiba jer orang tua nih terjojol depan pintu masuk hotel berbogel.. Dia cover die nye TUTTTT (kasik kuat sikit) dengan laptop.. Nak tau ape yang jadi?

2 perempuan nih curi laptop die... Pastuh sebab sayangkan laptop dia, dia sanggup kejar tanpa menyedari yang dia tuh tgh bogel.. And then, kan ke bilik hotel selalu lock sendiri dari dalam.. So, dia takde pilihan melainkan pi front desk mintak kunci.. Nasib baik laptop ko dapat balik, kalo dak sesia je bogel kan..

Kesimpulan dari cerita di atas... Mat salleh sangat lah tak senonoh ok... Sekian, nanti ada citer best, I hapdate lagi.. *wink*
